NHS App 

The NHS App allows you to access a range of NHS services. You can download the NHS App on your phone or tablet. You can also access the same services in a web browser by logging in through the NHS website.

You must be aged 13 or over to use the NHS App. You also need to be registered with a GP surgery in England or the Isle of Man. Find out more about who can use the NHS App.

Online Services

GP online services allow you to access a range of services via your computer, mobile or tablet. Once you have signed up, you will be able to:

  • book certain appointments online
  • renew or order repeat prescriptions online
  • view parts of your GP record, including information about medication, allergies, vaccinations, previous illnesses and test results

You can still contact the practice by phone or in person, this is just another option, which other patients have found is more convenient and saves them time. More information including “how to” leaflets and videos of patients and why they are using GP online services are available at www.nhs.uk/gponlineservices

For more information, please contact reception or next time you visit the surgery, bring with you a piece of photo ID (passport, driving licence) and something with your address on like a bank statement but not a gas or electric bill. If you don’t have these, please talk to us and we will help you sign-up

PATIENT SATISFACTION & FEEDBACK

Thank you to all the patients who have completed the GP Patient Satisfaction Survey.  The results for 2023 are very pleasing and reads as follows:-

Out of 6480 GP practices in England we sit in position 102

For the Midlands we sit at position 12

For Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, we sit in position 1.

We are very proud of what we achieve and are grateful for all the hard work the team put in to help achieve this.

Patient Feedback

We regularly ask patients for feedback on our services, we do this using the 'Friends & Family Test'. We now share the results of these test surveys on our website, by the use of 'You said...We did' updates, to keep you informed of our improvements. 

  • You said when you saw a clinician, you were happy with the care and attention you received from them

    • We are working with our primary care colleagues within our Primary Care Network to sustain services locally, and when possible to do so, to increase services.  Our largest change over recent years has been to increase the range and number of health care workers that you can now access appointments with, these include:
      -Pharmacists including the new Pharmacy First Scheme
      -Pharmacy technicians
      -Physicians Associates
      -Paramedics
      -Social Prescriber Link Workers
      -Mental Health Practitioners
      -Occupational Therapist
      -First Contact Physiotherapists 
      By including these new workers, your core primary care team remain available to see patients with complex health care needs/ with long term conditions/ to offer more local services to you, to meet the growing needs of our ageing population year on year.

Primary Care Networks

(PCNs)

From 1st July 2019, GP practices began working in groups with other GP practices in the local area, as well as other health, social care and voluntary sector organisations.

These groups are known as primary care network. Together they decide what services they are to provide for their local patients to prevent and manage ill-health.

Sometimes a member of the practice team may work for all of the practices in the network.

There may also be times when you receive your appointment in one of the other practices in your network - particularly if you have a non-urgent need or that practices specialises in an area of care you need.

The Cottage Surgery is a member of the Soar Valley PCN. We are working closely with surgeries within our PCN to provide our patients with extended hours access appointments.

Home of the ABCD of Access Solutions and Doctor First

 

YOUR NAMED GP IS - Dr Jason Fitchett.  This is for the purpose of administration and all patients are able to see any clinician at the surgery

 

We are increasing the number of appointments available for you to see a GP in the early mornings, evenings or at weekends across West Leicestershire.

Depending on your individual circumstances and symptoms, we may offer you an ‘extended access’ appointment. Please note however, that these appointments will not be in your usual GP practice and will not be with one of your usual GPs or nurses.

Depending on the reason for your appointment, and if you are in agreement, it may be suitable for you to see an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, instead of a GP.

The clinician you see will be able to access relevant sections of your medical notes and will communicate what has happened during your appointment back to your usual GP practice.

Accessible Information Standards

This is a new standard being introduced by NHS England which has been developed to support the Equality Act.

The purpose of the standard is to make sure that people with a disability, impairment or sensory loss have access to information that they can understand and get any communication support they might need. This also applies to parents and carers of these people.

This does not apply to:

  1. Patients who prefer to get their information in other formats that do not have a disability or sensory loss.
  2. Foreign language translation
  3. People who have difficulty reading or understanding information for reasons other than a disability, impairment or sensory loss for example due to low literacy or a learning difficulty like dyslexia as distinct from a learning disability.

For example they might need their information in a format other than standard printed letters; such as braille, easy read, via email etc.

Also they may need help with communication through use of a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter, deafblind manual interpreter, an advocate etc.

What is included in the standard?

  1. Ask people if they have any information or communication needs and find out what they are
  2. Record those needs
  3. Highlight in the patient records what the needs are and how they should be met
  4. Share these needs with other NHS adult social care providers with their consent.
  5. Make sure that they receive information in a way that meets their needs and that they get any communication support that they need.
